With an official visit to Shakarim University, the Consul General of the People's Republic of China in the Republic of Kazakhstan, Jiang Wei, and the Consulate Attaché, Wang Shuje, held a meeting with the university’s administration.
The meeting, organized by the Center for International Cooperation of Shakarim University, began with a presentation by Vice-Rector for Strategy and Social Development, Askar Kasymov. He introduced the distinguished guests to the history of the university, its achievements, and international partnerships.
In his speech, the Vice-Rector elaborated on ongoing agrobiological research carried out in cooperation with the Northwest A&F University of China. In particular, a project for planting new potato varieties based on modern international technologies is being implemented at the university's experimental site.
It was also noted that during the Central Asia–China Industrial and Investment Cooperation Forum held in Astana, an investment agreement worth 5.3 billion tenge was signed to establish a joint laboratory for electrical automation with Xi’an Jiaotong University (PRC). This project has become one of Shakarim University's largest and most long-term accomplishments.
Askar Kasymov also emphasized:
"This year, the university entered the prestigious international rankings QS World University Rankings 2026 and THE Impact Rankings for the first time, which reflects the growing quality of education. The main goal of Shakarim University is to nurture a competitive generation."
During the meeting, the parties discussed opportunities for developing academic exchange programs for students and faculty, organizing English and Chinese language courses, and implementing joint scientific and academic projects.
Although it was his first visit to Shakarim University, Jiang Wei stated that he was well-informed about the university’s activities and was impressed by its development progress. He highly appreciated the ongoing projects, particularly highlighting the promising prospects of expanding cooperation with Xi’an Jiaotong University.
The Consul emphasized that the geographical proximity of the two countries presents unique opportunities for deepening partnerships in science and education. He expressed confidence that such ties would continue to grow stronger, bringing mutual benefits to both sides.
Chinese language lecturer at Shakarim University, Pu Lizhuan, spoke with the Chinese Consul about Chinese language teaching at the university. She positively assessed the interest and engagement of students and emphasized the need to expand student exchange programs between the two countries.
At the conclusion of the meeting, both sides expressed confidence in the continued development of bilateral cooperation and reaffirmed their commitment to further mutually beneficial partnerships in the fields of education and science.
